With a responsibility and duty to contribute positively to the society and economy in which it operates, Coca-Cola HBC Cyprus presents its Sustainable Development Report for the year 2023.
As a member of the Coca-Cola HBC Group, the commitment to sustainability is deeply embedded in the corporate culture and serves as the guiding principle of its activities.
A key priority at Coca-Cola HBC Cyprus is its people. The company has created a working environment that responds in modern ways to the professional and personal ambitions of employees, with care for people, opportunities for continuous learning and development, while providing competitive benefits and remuneration. The safety and health of employees are a non-negotiable value. It is indicative that for 6 years not a single working day has been lost due to an accident at the Kykkos natural mineral water bottling plant.
As part of the Group's commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040, “NetZeroBy40”, Coca-Cola HBC Cyprus is implementing a series of initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint:
100% of the electricity in its factories comes from renewable sources, which is equivalent to achieving the Group's goal for 2025.
66.9% of the energy it uses in its factories comes from renewable and clean sources, exceeding the Group's target for 2025 by 16.9%.
Coca-Cola HBC Cyprus is putting the principles of the circular economy into practice. Reducing the amount of materials in its packaging is one of the most
effective ways to reduce their environmental impact:
Annual weight reduction of 161 tons in the packaging of Kykkos natural mineral water, which corresponds to an annual reduction of 362 tn CO2
7.5% weight reduction in aluminum packaging (330ml) compared to 2017.
Tethered caps were also installed on soft drinks and water from 2023, implementing the legislation earlier than expected.
Since 2021, the company has eliminated plastic film from aluminum multi-packs through the new KeelClip™ packaging type. It is the first company to use the new and innovative KeelClipTM packaging type in the non-alcoholic beverages sector, which in Cyprus equates to a reduction of almost 126 tons of plastic per year.
Among Coca-Cola HBC Cyprus' primary commitments regarding proper water management is the minimization of its use and the treatment of wastewater to ensure aquatic life:
It reused and recycled 5,077,000 liters of water in its production units and 3,647,000 liters of clean water from the outlet of the Kykkos factory was reused for irrigation.
A reduction in water use of 34.6% was achieved, compared to 2010.
