We believe that our company has an active role to play in efforts towards increasing the recycling rate in Cyprus, supporting emblematic programs such as Zero Waste Beach, which had the mission of mobilizing all stakeholders and the public in the fight against marine plastic pollution and promoting recycling.
The program was funded by The Coca-Cola Foundation, following the company's global commitment to "A World Without Waste" and was implemented in collaboration with the AKTI Center for Studies and Research.
Within the framework of the Program, the “Network of Responsible Coastal Businesses” was created. With the contribution of Local Authorities, coastal businesses-members of the Network, Public sector bodies and volunteers, the collection of thousands of tons of recyclable materials has been achieved.
In 2023, Zero Waste Beach was upgraded, gained new funding from the Coca-Cola Foundation and expanded across the HoReCa spectrum in Cyprus with the
name Zero Waste HoReCa, with the aim of actively supporting hospitality and café businesses throughout the territory of free Cyprus, on their path towards the green transition.
Through the renewed program, we aim not only to reduce waste, but also to adopt innovative and sustainable practices by coffee and hospitality businesses to save energy, water and sustainable supplies. More specifically:
Waste reduction. Support tourism businesses in identifying, collecting and recording recyclable waste based on the principles of the circular economy.
Energy saving practices. Supporting businesses in reducing their energy consumption to reduce their costs and contribute to reducing the climate crisis. The performance of network members will be monitored through their practices.
Water saving practices. The HoReCa industry consumes large amounts of water, which means that implementing water saving practices could have a positive impact on the water crisis. The water consumption of these members will be monitored through the practices they implement.
Sustainable supply chain. Research shows that two-thirds of a company’s footprint belongs to its suppliers. Therefore, targeting a company’s procurement practices to make them more sustainable,
can make a significant contribution to reducing this footprint. These sustainability practices take into account the entire life cycle of the products they source and strive to minimize impacts wherever possible.
